Videos viewed hundreds of millions of times on social media claim that the Pacific and Atlantic oceans never mix. They show color differences as proof. So, is it true that the oceans don’t mix?
On social networks, videos viewed hundreds of millions of times claim that the Pacific and Atlantic oceans never mix, with color differences as proof. The claim that oceans do not mix is false. These videos have been hijacked. In reality, they were filmed in the northeast of China. Local media broadcast similar videos. It is in fact the Yellow River which flows into the sea. The phenomenon occurs every year during the rainy season.

Another widely shared video purports to represent the border between the Atlantic and the Pacific. But in reality, the original video posted in 2015 shows a river flowing into the sea in the Strait of Georgia, near Vancouver (Canada). Those who publish these images actually want to attract attention by showing impressive phenomena so that their videos are shared as much as possible, even if it means coming to terms with the truth. Because the more these videos are viewed, the more money their authors can earn.
