During his inauguration on Monday May 20, Lai Ching-te called on Beijing to stop its intimidation. “As Commander in Chief, my duty is to protect our home. I will stand on the front lines with our military brothers and sisters to defend national security together.”, declared the new president of Taiwan from a military base. The Chinese military exercise is due to end on Friday. In recent years, Beijing has intensified its threats to Taiwan, considering that this island territory is one of its provinces.
