The end of the war in Iraq allowed women to emancipate themselves. Equestrian center, sports establishments, café… Several spaces, created by other women, are reserved for them.

In western Iraq, a rider sets out to create an equestrian center for women, a scene unimaginable a few years earlier. A turnaround has begun in the province since the end of the war against Daesh. She wants to make her passion, discovered in exile in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), accessible. “We do not break the norms, nor the tribal codes (…) we will go to the end, until society supports women”assures Hajer el-Obeidi, founder of an equestrian center for women.

An indirect consequence of the war

Out of sight, without being invisible, women’s sports establishments have opened in the city of Ramadi (Iraq). For women’s rights activist Raja’a Ahmed, Abed, these changes are an indirect consequence of the war. Women can have their space with Islam Nouri Ferhan, who created, with his daughter, the Flamingo café, reserved for women.
