A week after the release of a Belgian aid worker, Belgium announced on Friday June 2 that it had obtained the return from Iran of three other European prisoners. Releases that come as the mullahs’ regime multiplies executions.

A Dane, detained since November, and two Iranian-Austrians, imprisoned for several years, have left Iran. An evacuation by plane to Oman then Brussels (Belgium) was planned. This return was possible thanks to mediation by Belgium. “I would particularly like to remethank the Belgian Prime Minister for his commitment as well as Oman”said Carl nehammerAustrian Chancellor. “A network is necessary to carry out this type of mission,” he added.

Arbitrary arrests, a political strategy

At least five French prisoners remain in Iran today. One of them, Louis Arnaud, was arrested last September in Tehran. His family is waiting for a quick outcome. “We always hope, we will never give up our hope”, reacts Sylvie Arnaud, his mother. “There, we say to ourselves that it can work”, she adds. Arbitrary arrests have become a stratpolitical leadership of Iran. The country would today hold a quardozens of foreign nationals. At the same time, according to Amnesty International, since January 2023, 282 detainees were executed, three times more than last year at the same glitchperiod.
