More than half of the Iranian population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The Iranian health ministry announced it on Saturday, November 20, as the number of infections and deaths begins to drop in the country. Since the start of the vaccination campaign in February, more than 44.2 million of the approximately 83 million inhabitants have received two necessary doses of the anticovid vaccine, according to figures released by the health authorities. In addition, 12.2 million people received only one dose of the vaccine.

Iran, the country in the Middle East hardest hit by the pandemic, has recorded more than 6 million cases of infections and nearly 129,000 deaths in total, according to the Ministry of Health. But several Iranian officials have admitted that these statistics vastly underestimate the number of deaths and cases.

Life is gradually resuming in the country. Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi on Saturday ordered the lifting of the traffic ban imposed for a year on private cars from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. in urban areas. Iranian authorities on Thursday opened the doors of football stadiums to 30% of spectators as “experimental”. In September, Iranian museums reopened after more than a year of closure.
