Iran promises to retaliate in the event of a US attack on its soil

The Islamic Republic will not hesitate to retaliate against any American attack on its soil, the spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy said on Monday, after the White House did not rule out the possibility of directly striking Iran.

The United States carried out a series of strikes on Friday against elite Iranian forces and pro-Iranian armed groups in Syria and Iraq, in response to the deaths of three American soldiers in Jordan on January 28.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Saturday that the United States will continue its retaliation and did not want to rule out the possibility of a direct attack on targets in Iran.

“The Islamic Republic will not hesitate to use its capabilities to give a response that makes the aggressors regret,” reacted Monday the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanani, during his weekly press conference.

“Others have already seen this capacity and power and will calculate a hundred times before any bad action,” he added.

The United States and the United Kingdom announced on Saturday that they had bombed dozens of targets in Yemen, in response to repeated attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. .

Mr. Kanani denounced the strikes in Iraq, Yemen and Syria as “adventurous” and “illegal” actions, saying they were carried out as part of “a policy of total support” for Israel.

The Houthis say they are acting in “solidarity” with the Palestinians in Gaza, in the grip of the war between the Israeli army and the Islamist movement Hamas.

US forces announced Sunday they had carried out airstrikes against five missiles in Yemen, prepared for launch against ships in the Red Sea.

Tehran “does not seek to aggravate tensions and crises in the region and has never supported tensions and crises,” the Iranian spokesperson said on Monday.
