Iran dismantles a “terrorist” network linked to the Mossad

(Tehran) The Iranian authorities have announced that they have dismantled a “terrorist” network linked to the Israeli intelligence service, the Mossad, which was planning attacks targeting “sensitive sites” in Iran, the official Irna news agency said on Saturday.

“Several members of a Mossad-linked terrorist spy network have been arrested,” the agency said, citing a statement from Iran’s Intelligence Ministry that did not give details of their number or nationality. It is specified there however that the suspects “entered in Iran via Kurdistan”, in the north of Iraq.

“They intended to carry out unprecedented acts of sabotage and terrorist operations against sensitive areas and predetermined targets, using high-performance operational equipment and the most powerful explosives,” the statement added, without more information about the targets in question.

“Their weapons, explosives and equipment were also completely confiscated”, still according to Irna.

Iran has already announced on several occasions the arrest of agents working for the intelligence services of foreign countries, in particular its sworn enemy Israel.

The Islamic Republic has also previously accused the Jewish state of sabotaging some of its nuclear sites and murdering several Iranian scientists.

In April, state television claimed that three people accused of having links to the Mossad and of being involved in the publication of “classified documents” had been arrested in the province of Sistan-Balochistan (southeast). .

And in July 2021, authorities claimed to have arrested “agents” members of a “network” working for Israel and seized a cache of weapons intended to be used for “riots”, while the south-west of the country is rocked by protests against water cuts.
