Iran calls on Westerners to “appreciate its restraint” towards Israel

Western countries “should appreciate Iran’s restraint” towards Israel following Tehran’s attack on Israeli territory in response to a deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the spokesperson said on Monday of diplomacy.

Western countries “should appreciate Iran’s restraint in recent months”, “instead of making accusations”, reacted Nasser Kanani during a press conference in Tehran.

The United States and European countries have condemned the unprecedented Iranian attack targeting Israel this weekend, which Tehran presents as a “self-defense” operation after the April 1 strike against the Iranian consulate in Damascus attributed to Israel.

The leaders of the G7 countries “unanimously” denounced on Sunday Iran’s military operation which, “with its actions”, “risks provoking an uncontrollable regional escalation”.

“Our advice to all supporters of the Zionist regime is to appreciate Iran’s responsible action and, instead of choosing disproportionate remarks against Iran, to warn the Zionist regime against other evils which will incalculable consequences for this regime,” reacted the spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy.

He claimed that Tehran had decided to “punish” Israel after “the UN Security Council failed to fulfill its responsibilities” to condemn the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, “due to the action of France, England and America” who opposed it.

The April 1 strike destroyed the Iranian consulate and left 16 dead, including seven members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, according to an NGO.

“We are firmly convinced that without the green light from the United States, Israel would not have dared to attack Iran’s diplomatic representation,” reiterated Mr. Kanani, while Washington has repeatedly affirmed not to have been involved in this operation.
