For the first time, Iran reveals that it delivered drones to Russia before the start of the invasion in February 2022. “We provided Russia with a limited number of drones, months before the war in Ukraine”, announced Saturday, November 5, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, quoted by the official agency Irna. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said he was ready to examine any evidence of the use of Iranian drones in the Ukrainian conflict.

However, he again denied that his country supplied missiles to Russia, deeming these accusations “completely false”. kyiv claims that around 400 Iranian drones have already been used against the Ukrainian population and that Moscow has ordered around 2,000. In response, the EU and the UK announced new sanctions against Iran, targeting three generals and an arms company “responsible for supplying Russia with suicide drones” to bomb Ukraine.

“Tehran must realize that the consequences of its complicity in Russia’s crimes against Ukraine will be far greater than the benefit of Russia’s support”responded Oleg Nikolenko, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. In September, kyiv had already decided to drastically reduce its diplomatic relations with Tehran due to alleged arms deliveries to Moscow.
