(Montreal) Some 1,900 workers at the IOC mine in Sept-Îles and Labrador rejected the draft employment contract that had been submitted to them following an agreement in principle.
The Steelworkers’ Union, affiliated with the FTQ, which represents them, indicated that the members of the three local sections concerned had rejected the draft collective agreement that had been submitted to them.
In the case of the 400 workers of the QNS&L railway and the IOC mining port, the rejection even reaches 96.6%. And before them, the 1,500 workers at the IOC mine in Labrador had also refused the draft employment contract.
The Steelworkers Union says it will roll up its sleeves and come back to the bargaining table to try to satisfy the appetite of its members.
“While inflation is high, members are demanding working conditions accordingly. The members have made it clear that they still need more to get to the finish line and conclude the employment contract,” commented the Steelworkers union representative, Marc Tremblay.
