The federal agency indicates that residential construction declined by 0.4% to 15.5 billion in June. This decline is largely due to the Quebec market, where a decline in investments of around 6.7% has been recorded.

In total, Statistics Canada reports that investment in construction (residential and non-residential) rose 0.3% to $20.8 billion.

In the residential segment, investment in single-family homes remained resilient, rising 0.7% to $8.6 billion.

Investment in non-residential construction rebounded in June, rising 2.4% to $5.3 billion for the month, with commercial construction rising 2.7% to $3.0 billion, boosted by the recovery in activities in Ontario.

Investment in commercial construction fell in May, the first time in 13 months, due to a strike by construction workers in Ontario.

According to Statistics Canada, the total value of investment in building construction rose 3.3% to $62.3 billion in the second quarter, the third consecutive quarterly increase.
