Passing through Montreal on Monday, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, announced an investment of $565 million to equip the blue line of the Montreal metro with a new train control system.
This new system, funded by contributions from the federal government (approximately $200 million), the Quebec government (296.6 million) and the City of Montreal (65.6 million), will replace the one that has been in operation for some fifty years. ‘years.
The authorities want to take advantage of the extension of the blue line to provide it with a more efficient system. “It allows for better reliability,” said Minister Guilbault during a press conference Monday at the Youville workshops in the presence of Mayor Valérie Plante. “Movements will be much more fluid. »
The new system will improve train reliability, frequency and comfort during departures and stops. The sum of 565 million announced on Monday will make it possible to implement the system on the blue line. It will then be installed in the rest of the network.
The implementation of the new technology will be completed in 2028 for the existing blue line and in 2029 for the extended part.
