Emmanuel Macron will receive, Saturday, May 5, during his inauguration for his second presidential term, the necklace of “Ggreat master of the Legion of Honor”. Here is his story.

The “G” necklacegreat master of the Legion of Honor” is kept at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, in the salon of the Grand Chancellors. On Saturday May 7, the President of the Republic will receive him for the second time, during the investiture ceremony. “Presenting this necklace to him, I will pronounce the ritual formula: ‘we recognize you “Grand Master of the Order of the Legion of Honor”explains General Benoît Puga, Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor. On this symbolic jewel, each of the sixteen links represents one of the nation’s activities (artillery, trade and industry, literature…).

Napoleon initiated this tradition. Since then, two other necklaces have accompanied the Presidents of the Republic, even if it is no longer worn. Indeed, hasWith Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, the ceremony has become simpler: the necklace is only presented to the Head of State. The necklace lives its last hours of glory: there are only two links left. Then you will have to make a new one.
