The Québec Ombudsman publishes a series of recommendations to the Montreal Children’s Hospital concerning care deemed inadequate.
The investigation by the Office of the Québec Ombudsman Marc-André Dowd revealed numerous shortcomings at the hospital, including infrequent monitoring of patients’ vital signs after surgery.
The report, released on Thursday, also said young patients were not always properly followed up after receiving opiates such as morphine.
Mr Dowd’s office says he launched the investigation after being made aware of worrying problems at the children’s hospital.
The Québec Ombudsman recommends that the hospital analyze the results of the investigation and properly train staff on the rules concerning pediatric opioid therapy.
A hospital spokeswoman said in a statement that the facility has taken steps to correct the issues described in the report.
