An investigation was opened to “determine the circumstances” of the death of a man hit in Paris in mid-December by a biker from the Brav-M, a criticized police unit, announced the Paris prosecutor’s office on Sunday December 17.

The investigation follows “a fatal accident involving a Brav-M motorcycle and a pedestrian who was crossing, avenue de Flandre”, in the 19th arrondissement of the capital, details the prosecution, confirming information from Mediapart. It was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) and the Judicial Accident Processing Service (STJA). The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the death but was unable to confirm the date.

The Brav-M (Motorized Brigades for the Repression of Violent Action) were created in spring 2019 after the violence that occurred during the “yellow vest” demonstrations. These units, which travel on motorbikes to maintain order during demonstrations in Paris, are the subject of several legal investigations for violence against demonstrators. Their dismantling was requested by several deputies from La France insoumise (LFI) or citizen petitions.
