A preliminary investigation has been opened, in particular for illegal taking of interests, against the LR MP and mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne) Vincent Jeanbrun, suspected of having allocated housing belonging to an inter-municipal syndicate to two of his collaborators, the Créteil public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday, September 26.
Investigation opened for illegal taking of interests and concealment of illegal taking of interests “by an elected official in a matter for which he is responsible for the administration or supervision”bribery, receiving stolen goods, and theft, misappropriation or destruction of property from a public depository by the holder of public authority or one of his subordinates, the prosecution said, confirming information from Mediapart.
Opened on September 2 and entrusted to the Brigade for the Repression of Economic Crime (BRDE), this investigation follows a report made by the anti-corruption association Anticor, filed in mid-July. Anticor denounces “the irregular allocation of official housing” by Vincent Jeanbrun in 2017 and 2021 to his chief of staff and his chief of staff at the town hall, “who would have had access to accommodation reserved for members” of the intercommunal cemetery union, specifies the association.
The accommodation in question is two 150 m2 houses located in Chevilly-Larue, a neighbouring town of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, and these two employees paid 700 euros in monthly rent, a rate “five times below market price”Anticor explains. These accommodations were allocated “in contradiction with the union regulations” intercommunal to people who were not employed by this union, Anticor also believes.
“This is likely to constitute misappropriation of public funds.”denounces the association, which also points out the fact that the electricity bills of the two employees were paid by the town hall, for an amount of 45,000 euros. Mediapart, Vincent Jeanbrun evokes “a practice already in place within the union before his arrival at the town hall” and claims to be “authorized by the union council to sign commercial and rental leases for the union’s real estate assets”.
