An investigation was opened for attempted murder by the Toulouse prosecutor’s office on Friday January 21, after the arrest on Thursday of a man presented as very dangerous, who attacked a woman after escaping from a psychiatric hospital, reports France Blue Occitania.

His 72-year-old victim suffered multiple arm fractures and head wounds. The Toulouse prosecutor’s office wants in particular to verify the responsibility of the author at the time of the facts, with a new psychiatric expertise.

The 33-year-old man is again interned at the Marchant hospital in Toulouse, from which he escaped on Wednesday evening, taking advantage of a moment of inattention by the nursing staff.

He has been cared for there for several years, deemed criminally irresponsible. In November 2013, he killed a 90-year-old man in Nouilhan (Hautes-Pyrénées) with a stick, before eating his heart and tongue, cooked with beans. He then attempted to kill another inhabitant of this village.

This former soldier spent five years in a marine infantry tank regiment based in Poitiers. After his stay in Afghanistan, he stayed in Cyprus for a psychological evaluation. A post-traumatic syndrome was then diagnosed.
