The investigation opened after accusations of rape brought against the writer Frédéric Beigbeder was closed without further action in “the absence of serious or concordant evidence”the Pau public prosecutor’s office announced in a press release on Friday, July 26.

On July 23, 2023, a woman filed a complaint at the Pau police station against the novelist, whom she accused of rape, committed according to her on the night of July 18 to 19 in a hotel room. Placed in police custody on December 12, the writer disputed the facts.

In the preliminary investigation opened by the prosecution,“all witnesses who can shed any light on the facts” were heard, declared the public prosecutor, Rodolphe Jarry, in his press release. Following the investigations, he “it did not appear possible to prove the commission of the alleged acts of rape, described as having been committed behind closed doors”he wrote.

The offense appearing as “insufficiently characterized”the procedure was closed without further action.
