The meeting between Montpellier and Clermont has a new date. The Professional Football League announced on Tuesday October 31 that the match, counting for the 8e Ligue 1 day, will take place Wednesday November 29 at 7 p.m. The meeting, initially scheduled for October 8, was interrupted after a firecracker was thrown from a stand and landed right next to Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw. Subsequently, the Hérault club was sanctioned with a penalty point and a match behind closed doors.
Mory Diaw had to be evacuated on a stretcher to 91e minute of the match after being hit in the ears. The match was stopped while the MHSC led 4-2 in the 91ste minute and headed towards victory. The man suspected of being the author of the throw, and one of his accomplices who allegedly supplied him with the firecracker, will be tried on November 16.
After ten days, Montpellier is at 11e place in Ligue 1 (with one match in months), while Clermont is relegated, 17e, just in front of Olympique Lyonnais. OL will also have a match to replay, following the postponement of their match on Sunday October 29 in Marseille after the players’ bus and several buses of Rhone supporters were stoned upon their arrival at the Stade Vélodrome.
