US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spent four days on the African continent and renewed the United States’ long-term commitment to Africa. A continent which is becoming a zone of covetousness, particularly for Russia and China, where a war for influence is taking place.

After Cape Verde, Ivory Coast and Nigeria, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken ends his tour with Angola. He has particularly taken care of his relations with this country, rich in oil. This African operation aims to reiterate the support of the United States for this continent where China and Russia are gaining ground. On the program: security issues affecting West Africa, issues which were previously managed by France. France, driven from the continent at the rate of coups d’état, had to withdraw from Mali in 2022, from Burkina Faso in February 2023 and more recently from Niger.

China well established

This trip takes place in the context where Russia takes France’s vacant place, as in the Central African Republic where Wagner’s mercenaries ensure the security of the president, but they also exploit several mines and even control the country’s customs. China, a well-established partner in Africa, continues to multiply development projects. According to the Wall Street Journal, Washington would seek to install military reconnaissance drones on the territory.
