United Nations spokesperson Rolando Gomes confirms that “LThe UN considers that such an evacuation is impossible without causing disastrous humanitarian consequences. The United Nations calls for [aux autorités israéliennes] to withdraw their evacuation order. And prevent a situation that is already tragic from turning into a calamitous situation.”.
WHO denounces “death sentences”
The UN special rapporteur for the displaced says “horrified” and even evokes an act comparable to a crime against humanity. The World Health Organization does not go that far, but speaks of an order that goes beyond cruelty. “Displacing seriously ill people – often children – who only survive because they receive medical assistance, such as artificial respirators… Moving them in these conditions is condemning them to death”denounces Tarik Jasarevic, the WHO spokesperson.
Behind the scenes, humanitarians admit that they have little chance of being heard by the Israeli authorities, who are determined to put an end to Hamas. For its part, Washington claims to have asked Israel to do everything possible to avoid civilian deaths.
