In the PS, Olivier Faure’s position is not unanimous. While the number one of the socialist party refuses to resume discussions with Emmanuel Macron after the president’s rejection of a government of the New Popular Front (NFP) led by Lucie Castets, his internal opponents are distancing themselves and stepping up to the plate. “I assume that we must resume discussions with the President of the Republic. We will be criticized by all voters, ours and those of the Republican Front, for not having tried until the end.”declared Hélène Geoffroy during a national party office on Tuesday August 27, according to information from France Télévisions.

“I say we want to govern, more, we must”continued the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône) after having said that she had no “a lesson from the left to receive from LFI. I will not let myself be intimidated by their intellectual terrorism”Furthermore, Hélène Geoffroy does not support the call for a demonstration by La France Insoumise on September 7. “I accept that I refuse to call for a demonstration. I am the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin and I know the price it costs to call for a riot.”hammered the councilor. On this point, she joins the position of the party leadership.

Invited on France 2 on Tuesday morning, Olivier Faure ruled out going “accomplice in a parody of democracy” and play “the auxiliaries of a dying macronie” by participating in the second round of discussions initiated by the Head of State. “On the other hand, we cannot be auxiliaries of La France Insoumise”retorts Hélène Geoffroy.

In this unprecedented political situation, the presidential camp is seeking to rally the socialists. Gérald Darmanin called on them on BFMTV and RMC to show themselves “responsible” to build a “broad coalition”, ensuring that the Macronists “could agree on a minimum” with the socialists for “allow France to function”.
