Like every evening, the 11 p.m. news news takes a look at the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s Eurozapping on Wednesday December 20.

In Great Britain, the strike movement of hospital doctors is hardening. While hospitals are already in bad shape, junior doctors, the equivalent of our interns, are demanding an increase in their salaries, which have been reduced by high inflation. “We have been on strike for 14 months. Our salaries have been reduced by 26% and we see the effects every day in the hospital”explained Sumi Manijoran, vice-president of the junior doctors committee.

In Poland, the new government is cleaning up public broadcasting. Two months after the election victory of pro-European liberals, the heads of Polish radio and television were all fired. Supporters of the former populist government occupied the building in protest. The new Polish government accuses the former team of having disseminated propaganda and biased information, and assures that from now on the public media will be irreproachable.

The situation is improving in Iceland

Slight lull in the volcanic eruption in Iceland. The new lava flow that occurred on Monday, December 18 is under control, but residents of the town of Grindavik who were evacuated will have to spend Christmas outside their homes. “We have purchased 70 apartments into which evacuees will be able to move before Christmas”, announced Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir. In Reykjavik, the capital, located around forty kilometers away, daily life is gradually returning to normal.
