A heat warning is issued when very hot or humid conditions are expected to present a high risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
The federal agency reports that the combined temperature and humidity readings will produce a Humidex factor of around 42 on Saturday and Sunday. These conditions will prevail in the regions of Montreal, the Laurentians to Mont-Tremblant, Montérégie, Estrie, the Centre-du-Québec region, Lanaudière, Mauricie and Bois-Francs.
An increase in temperature and humidity will begin to be felt in these regions this Friday.
Temperatures and Humidex will be nearly as high this weekend in the Maritimes regions that are subject to the warnings.
In several regions of Quebec, including those where the heat warning was issued, Environment Canada predicts a significant drop in temperature starting Monday. For example, the maximum predicted in Montreal is 19 degrees Celsius; it will only rise to 18 degrees in Trois-Rivières and 16 degrees in Mont-Tremblant, but in all these regions, the weather will be rainy.
A similar drop in mercury will also occur in the three Maritime provinces, where maximum temperatures are expected to be around 20 or 22 degrees Celsius starting Monday.
