Extreme natural events were frequent and intense last year, encrypting itself at a cost of 6.5 billion euros for insurers. Will the worsening of climate risks have an impact on the amount of contributions? In Blendecques (Pas-de-Calais), Dominique Mahieu’s house was flooded three times in the space of two months. Insurance will cover “150,000 euros” works in total.
Better anticipate climatic events
Faced with the multiplication of claims, insurance companies are however increasing their prices: + 6% on average this year, compared to 2023. The increase could slow down at best, if climatic events were better anticipated. “The more prevention measures we take, the more effective this prevention is and the more we will be able to control the increase in damage, and there will be less impact on prices”explains Florence Lustman, president of France Assureurs.
