Inmate escapes from Archambault Penitentiary

(Montreal) An inmate escaped from the federal penitentiary Archambault, located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines in the Laurentians, said Correctional Service Canada (CSC) on Thursday night.

The police are currently looking for François Paquette, a 53-year-old man. He is serving a three-year, four-month, and 28-day sentence for break and enter and possession of burglary tools.

CSC explains that the prisoner’s absence was noticed by the personnel of the minimum security unit at Archambault Institution during the count at 10 p.m. on Thursday.

SCC claims to have “immediately” contacted the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). “A warrant for his arrest has been issued against him,” the agency said in a statement.

Paquette is described as having a pale complexion, brown eyes, chestnut hair, and wears glasses. He is 185cm tall and weighs 85kg. The man has also served other sentences for break and enters.

SCC invites anyone with information on the whereabouts of François Paquette to contact the SQ.

The federal agency says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and working with the police department “to locate the offender as quickly as possible.”

Archambault Prison is a two-level security facility, one medium-security unit and one minimum-security unit. It is located about twenty kilometers south of Saint-Jérôme.
