Injured ankle | Andy Murray withdraws from Monte-Carlo and Munich

(London) Briton Andy Murray, who seriously injured his ankle in Miami, is out of Monte-Carlo and Munich in April, his entourage said on Friday, for whom the date of the soon-to-be 37-year-old’s return remains totally blurry.

“At this stage, it remains unclear how long Andy will be out of action, and he continues to explore options with his medical team,” Murray’s team wrote in a statement.

However, he will definitely miss the Master 1000 in Monte-Carlo (April 7-14) and the ATP 250 tournament in Munich (April 15-21).

The double Olympic champion (2012, 2016) was injured in the third round of the Masters 1000 in Miami on Sunday, beaten by the Czech Tomas Machac 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7/5), during a match that he insisted on finishing despite the pain.

Murray said Monday that he suffered a complete rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament and a near complete rupture of the calcaneofibular ligament.

Victim of numerous injuries since 2017, Murray, who will turn 37 in May and notably had a metal hip prosthesis fitted in 2019, has already indicated that he will retire by the end of the season.

He is now in a race against time to return in time to bid farewell this summer at Wimbledon, which he has also won twice.

If he is awarded, Murray also hopes to participate in the Paris Olympic Games just after the English Major, before ending a professional career that began in 2005.
