After Nahel’s death, the distrust of some young people towards the police increased further. Meetings are organized in police stations with young people to renew dialogue.

High school students from Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) meet at the police station. A BAC police officer presents his job to them. Young people can try on helmets, bulletproof vests and armbands to feel like a police officer. After the BAC, the students follow a major who shows them the police custody cells. The immersion continues as close as possible to the reality of the police station.

“Another image of the police”

The police officer who accompanies the students takes the opportunity to discuss notions of law, a way of empowering young people. The objective is to re-establish the link between young people and the police. “I want them to have a different image of the police”, explains Major Virginie Mouillard, from the daily security office. The death of Nahel, at the origin of the riots in the summer of 2023, fuels distrust. The Graines de France association, which has been organizing these exchanges for several years, is deployed throughout the territory, as in Vaucluse.
