Inflation continues. According to provisional figures revealed by INSEE on Friday September 29, the consumer price index stood at 4.9% over one year in September, the same level as in August.

Inflation has experienced an almost continuous increase since the end of 2020, peaking at 6.3% over one year in February 2023. This increase was notably driven by the prices of food and beverages. energy, which had jumped by 14.8% and 14.1% respectively. Since April, the rise in consumer prices has started to decline slightly, in particular due to the fall in energy prices.

But these energy prices have started to rise again since July, returning to their pre-summer level, at 11.5% over the year in September. Food price inflation continued its slight decline since March, to 9.6% year-on-year in September. Manufactured products and services have, for their part, suffered more moderate inflation since 2021. These sectors experienced price growth of just under 3% year-on-year in September.
