Attacks against firefighters in the exercise of their duty fell by 7.1% in 2023, franceinfo learned from the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday February 29. Last year, 555 firefighters were injured compared to 587 in 2022. “This decline is long-term”affirms the Ministry of the Interior which underlines that 307 attacks were observed during the last quarter of 2023, “the lowest level ever observed”.
“These attacks mainly occur during interventions, and in 83% of cases, during assistance to a person”, specifies the ministry. In 48% of cases, the perpetrators are under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 21% of them suffer from psychiatric disorders.
THE “violence with supposed premeditation”fell from 92 to 63, a drop of 31%, between 2022 and 2023. The number of intrusions into barracks fell by 69%, with 10 intrusions in 2023 compared to 32 in 2022.
