“In a spirit of peace”and after a “emotion” victims of the Mediator, the government finally cancels its subsidy of 800,000 euros to the Gidy site (Loiret) of the Servier laboratories, learned on Saturday March 26 franceinfo from the Ministry of Industry. “Given the emotion aroused by this decision, the government has decided to cancel this subsidy which concerns the Gidy site, formerly the Mediator production site.writes the ministry to franceinfo.
In addition to its historical production of the Mediator, certain drugs now manufactured in this factory are considered useless or even dangerous by the health authorities. For example, Triplixam, a diuretic, is not reimbursed by Social Security, because the High Authority for Health (HAS) has deemed it unnecessary. Same thing for Vastarel, against vertigo and tinnitus.
In a letter sent on Saturday March 26, and to which franceinfo was able to have access, the Minister of Industry Agnès Panier-Runacher writes that “Given this emotion that we hear, and in a spirit of appeasement, I wanted to inform you that we have decided to cancel this grant in favor of the Gidy site.”
However, the Minister justifies the initial granting of this subsidy with a view to “reconstruction of the French industrial fabric” and of “reappropriation of our industrial sovereignty”. She also explains that it is necessary “catch up on under-investment, or even divestment, in some health industries.”
Sentenced in March 2021 for “aggravated deception” and “involuntary homicides and injuries” in the Mediator health scandal, Servier laboratories appealed their conviction. The laboratories were sentenced by the Paris Criminal Court to a fine of 2.718 million euros.
