Sparking a controversy in the midst of pension reform, the former Secretary of State for Gender Equality (2017-20) gave an interview on women’s rights in the issue of Playboy, posing dressed in different fashion designer outfits in the magazine. Marlène Schiappa had come under heavy criticism, including from the executive. Élisabeth Borne called the Secretary of State to tell her that her interview was “not at all appropriate“in the current context, while the left was indignant at this communication in the midst of a social crisis.

For her part, the Minister responsible for equality between women and men Isabelle Rome criticized her colleague’s choice to appear in Playboy summary of all sexist stereotypes“.”I wonder: why did you choose Playboy to advance women’s rights when this magazine is a compendium of all sexist stereotypes? We are right in the culture of the woman-object“, declared Isabelle Rome to our colleagues from Figaro. In this interview, Marlène Schiappa – at the turn of more frivolous questions, such as “Is politics an aphrodisiac?” – defends in particular the right of women to make “exactly what they want“.
