According to information from franceinfo, Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate and 3rd personage of the State, will not participate in the National Council for Refoundation, launched on September 8 by the President of the Republic.

The CNR is a forum for dialogue imagined by the Head of State to discuss the next major reforms to be carried out, such as those concerning schools or hospitals, for example. This assembly must be composed of the various political parties of the country, but also of the unions and citizens.

Gérard Larcher wrote to Emmanuel Macron to inform him of his absence. In this letter, which franceinfo was able to consult, he explains that he does not believe in this CNR to renovate democracy. A new assembly seen by certain heavyweights of the Senate “as a means of circumventing Parliament“.

According to members of the executive, this absence does not seal the future of the CNR, thought of as an authority “of dialogue to share constraints and responsibilities“according to the formula used by Matignon.
