Barely appointed, Brieuc Frogier, support of Eric Zemmour during the presidential election, leaves his post of special adviser to the Secretary of State Sonia Backès, learned franceinfo from government sources Wednesday, September 7.
During the presidential campaign, this elected loyalist to the New Caledonia congress had shown his support for Éric Zemmour. He had even brought him his sponsorship. In December 2021, he explained the reasons for his support for the far-right candidate. Eric Zemmour “wishes that New Caledonia remains in France, but it outlines future prospects for New Caledonia”, he had explained to the 1st. In NouméaPost, he also declared “not to recognize oneself at all in the policy led by Emmanuel Macron in mainland France”.
The appointment of Brieuc Frogier immediately sparked reactions among politicians and associations, on Twitter. “When the barriers fall… maddening to see how much the presidential party, which has made its fortune on the Republican front, has been increasing its outstretched hands to the far right since June”, wondered the First Secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure. Dominique Sopo, president of SOS Racisme, was indignant when he challenged the Prime Minister: “Élisabeth Borne, you cannot validate such a shocking recruitment within a ministerial cabinet.”
In the majority, the Renaissance MEP (ex-LREM) Pascal Durand reacted on Twitter: “A Minister of the Republic, in charge of citizenship, does not recruit as a special adviser a former supporter of Éric Zemmour five months after a call to block the far right, it is indecent.” Government spokesman Olivier Véran was not aware of this appointment on Wednesday morning.
