Since the launch of “temporary regional reception area”six months ago, 1,600 migrants were evacuated from Paris to be brought to these “sas”indicated the Ministry of Housing exclusively to franceinfo, Thursday September 14. “The objective is that they can build a life in Bordeaux or Marseille, where they were sent”explains Georges Bos, director of the division “migrants and refugees” to the Interministerial Delegation for Accommodation and Housing. “Finally they can submit a file, finally they are accommodated”he still justifies, while in the capital, “they were in the street”.

“We are convinced that this device was created for the Olympic Games”retorts Pierre Alauzy, coordinator at Médecins du monde. “The goal is to get as many people considered undesirable by the State out of Paris as possible and send them to the regions”, he adds. For him, “It’s not much better than destroying favelas in Brazil before the Olympic Games there”in 2016.

In all, there are ten “temporary regional reception area” in France, in ten different regions. Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Corsica are not affected by the system. Migrants stay a maximum of three weeks in these “sas”. At the end of this period, 20% of them leave without knowing what happens to them, the Ministry of Housing tells franceinfo, and 53% of them are redirected to accommodation centers urgently, in cities where they are already saturated.
