According to information gathered by franceinfo, the Rhône prefecture has just announced the temporary administrative closure of a new People & Baby crèche in the Croix-Rousse district of Lyon, after a fire that endangered ten children and required intervention. firefighters’ emergency on Tuesday, September 20. The authorities made this decision for the next three months, after being seized by the Métropole de Lyon. An administrative investigation is underway.
The fire broke out when the only two adults in charge of the children found themselves stranded in the garden of the “Moons and Stars” crèche, trapped by a door that had just “slammed” because of “an a draft,” says People & Baby. It is a cloth, placed on a hob that remained hot, which would have caused the fire.
Ten children were present at the time, four of them inside. They were issued by the firefighters, after they broke the windows of the establishment. There are no injuries and the People & Baby group specifies “that no child was worried or cried.“
This is the third administrative closure pronounced against a People & Baby establishment, including the second in Lyon. The previous one dating back to July 19 in Bordeaux, after “maladaptive behaviors“of three professionals supervising children, specified the prefecture of Gironde.
In Lyon, it was the death by poisoning of a child in a crèche in the third arrondissement which led to this decision in early July. The establishment has since been closed permanently, as revealed by franceinfo on Wednesday morning.
According to information from franceinfo, since this first tragedy which occurred in June, the Metropolis of Lyon has ordered 40 checks in private nurseries in Lyon and its surroundings, ordering around twenty injunctions for safety defects towards children.
