Info France 3 Occitania. Pierre Soulages will be buried this Friday in Paris, a mass in Conques simultaneously

The painter Pierre Soulages, who died on October 26 at the dawn of his 103 years, will be buried in Paris this Friday November 4. At the request of his wife, a tribute will also be paid to him in Conques (Aveyron).

The date of Pierre Soulages’ funeral is now known: the burial ceremony will take place in Paris this Friday, November 4, at 2 p.m.

His wife, Colette Soulages, specified that a mass will take place simultaneously at 2:30 p.m. at the Sainte-Foy de Conques abbey, whose stained glass windows he had redone between 1987 and 1994.

Known worldwide for his quasi-monochrome works, the “outrenoir”, Pierre Soulages tried, by varying textures and effects, to bring light into the dark.

Proud of Ruthenian, he had tried to make the homonymous museum of Rodez a place of exchange and sharing around art, offering temporary exhibitions in addition to a permanent collection rich in more than 500 works.

Pierre Soulages was one of the rare painters to have received the honors of a tribute to the Louvre during his lifetime, in 2019.

Another national tribute will be paid to him in the square courtyard of the Louvre, this Wednesday, November 2 at 3 p.m.
