Citizen forest groups are created by individuals who wish to buy forests to preserve them. They then exploit it in a reasoned way.
In the middle of the forests, there are clear cuts, patches of forest that have been completely laid bare, often replanted with a single species. To show that more sustainable forest management is possible, individuals have decided to buy back plots. They created a citizen forestry group using crowdfunding. A 10-hectare forest was recently purchased in Ardèche.
Protect the natural balance
They do not refrain from cutting or exploiting the forest, but do so in a reasoned way, with the concern of protecting the natural balance. City dwellers, sometimes novices, become forest managers. “They need to get involved“, believes Thierry Sagnimorte, lumberjack and stevedore. To be part of this forestry group, you must invest at least 2,000 euros. This entitles you to a tax reduction. For most participants, the process is not financial. . In France, a quarter of the forests belong to the State or to the communes.
