Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tells Vladimir Putin that ‘peace is of utmost importance’

The Russian president welcomed the head of the Indian government, hours after Russia launched a series of strikes targeting Ukrainian cities.

“War cannot solve problems.” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday, July 9, “that for a better future for the next generation, peace is of the utmost importance.” “When innocent children are murdered, we see them die, the heart suffers and this pain is unbearable”he also said, speaking in Hindi, sitting next to Vladimir Putin.

Narendra Modi clarified that during his visit to Moscow, he and Vladimir Putin discussed Russia’s intervention in Ukraine. “As true friends, we were together and talked about a range of issues”said Narendra Modi. “And I was glad that on Ukraine we could both express our opinions openly and in detail.”

Narendra Modi landed in Moscow on Monday, hours after Russia launched a series of strikes targeting Ukrainian cities that killed more than three dozen people and devastated a children’s hospital in kyiv, drawing condemnation from governments in Europe and North America.I know that war cannot solve problems, solutions and peace talks cannot be reached among bombs, guns and bullets.”added the Indian Prime Minister. “And we must find a path to peace through dialogue”he said.
