India attracts the attention of the whole world. The country, now the most populous on the planet, is in good economic health, with 6% growth forecast for 2023, in a gloomy global context. Demographic, economic but also cultural power, the sub-continent now dreams of being a great power on the international scene and is asserting itself against China, its main rival.
Become the world’s fifth largest economy
In its quest for recognition, India welcomed with pride, last September, its passage to the rank of fifth economic power of the planet. The country emerged in just a few years. “Today there is a capacity of attraction of the Indian economy which goes in the direction of the return of power, that is to say to be respected again after three, four centuries of external domination”, specifies Jean-Joseph Boillot, specialist in India and adviser to Iris. On the international scene, India opts for the strategy of multi-alignment.
