The end of the COP26 is approaching in Glasgow (Scotland) on Wednesday 10 November. The final draft text calls on countries to raise their CO2 reduction targets from 2022. India is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2070 is at the forefront of solar energy.
A dark blue ocean looms as far as the eye can see Bhadla, to Rajasthan, located in the northwest of India. Over nearly 5,500 hectares, half the area of Paris, more than seven million photovoltaic panels have been installed. It is the most big farm solar power in the world in terms of capacity. Opened last year, the plant provides enough energy to power more than two million homes. India is committed to converting to solar in order to reduce its carbon emissions.
From north to south India, initiatives are multiplying. Approximately over 2,500 kilometers from the solar farm, a new special ferry has been acquired. This public transport boat only works with solar energy. “All the solar panels are placed on the top of the boat, there are 78 in total”, Explain Sandith Thandasherry, founder of Navalt Solar. Six other similar vessels are under construction. More and more individuals are also equipping themselves with solar panels. On the other hand, the country is largely dependent on China which manufactures 70% panels installed. India now hopes to produce its own products.
