Drug trafficking is organized worldwide and even exceeds drug trafficking by billions of dollars.
Medicines diverted from their use, sold illegally at lower prices, sale of banned molecules… The traffic of medicines has intensified on a global scale and would even exceed the scale of the traffic of drugs. Drug dealers are also selling more and more drugs that can normally only be obtained by prescription. Online, the same observation: entire boxes of medicines are offered for resale.
A “trend towards diversion of medication use”
The majority of these drugs are produced abroad and sent to France. Customs is increasing checks to stem the traffic. 1.9 million health products were seized by customs in 2022. A phenomenon which has been confirmed in recent months, according to the head of the customs commercial operations division: “We are clearly seeing this trend towards diversion of the use of medicines (…) and therefore we are increasing our controls on this vector of fraud.”
