The BIXI bike-sharing system announces that during the season which ended on November 15, its ridership increased by 55% while its number of members jumped by 30%, allowing it to set two records at these chapters.
In addition, the number of different users stood at 437,140 this year, up 52% in one year, while the previous record of 5.8 million trips recorded in 2021 was beaten.
On the other hand, BIXI has noted a strong increase in the popularity of electric bicycles, after the addition of nearly 500 electrically assisted bicycles, around thirty new electric stations and 765 additional anchor points. The bike-sharing system has observed that electric BIXIs are used on average 24% more often than regular ones.
In 2022, the BIXI network included 7,270 regular bicycles and 2,395 electrically-assisted bicycles.
The non-profit organization also noted that bike sharing was gaining popularity in the cities it serves as a service operator, including Longueuil, Laval, Montreal East, Westmount and Mount Royal. BIXI says it is currently in discussions with a dozen other Quebec cities with the aim of extending its service there and developing the offer in the southern and northern crowns of the island of Montreal.
