Israeli athletes who arrived at the Olympic Village on Monday evening are receiving unprecedented protection to ensure their safety. Threats have been sent, which the Interior Ministry has taken very seriously.
In the Olympic Village, the athletes are under constant surveillance, from the entrance to the roof. The goal is to avoid any intrusion. But for one specific building, security is even more drastic: the one where the Israeli delegation is staying. It is one of the only ones to be placed under video surveillance 24 hours a day. The entrance is guarded by plainclothes police. “Everything has been done so that the Israeli delegation can arrive with complete peace of mind”assures Laurent Michaud, director of the Olympic village.
Since their arrival on Monday, July 22, the athletes of the Hebrew state have been under high protection. The Ministry of the Interior announced a permanent presence of the GIGN. The 1972 Munich Olympics are fresh in everyone’s memory. Israeli athletes were taken hostage. In total, 17 people lost their lives. This Tuesday morning, journalists were therefore systematically searched for the training of the Israeli football team. At the edge of the field, almost as many uniformed and plainclothes agents as athletes.
