After its deployment just a year ago, the repair bonus system intended to encourage consumers to have their devices repaired, will be reinforced from January.

To make the repair bonus more attractive, the Minister of Ecological Transition Christophe Béchu intends to increase it: 60 euros reduction on the repair of your TV, 50 euros for that of your washing machine, dishwasher or dryer and 40 euros for that of your vacuum cleaner. This is in fact double what was initially planned for the repair bonus for these five everyday devices and you will be able to benefit from it from January 1st. A big boost to encourage us to extend the lifespan of our equipment.
Because there is still work to be done: only 1.2 million euros have been spent out of the 63 million budgeted for the year 2023. 21 other devices will therefore also see the amount of their repair bonus increase by 5 euros . This goes from 10 to 15 euros for a kettle or an iron for example, from 15 to 20 euros for a home cinema or a drill and from 45 to 50 euros for a laptop. And the list is growing with 24 new equipment eligible for the bonus, from the electric shaver, to the hair dryer, including the fan and the printer, bringing the total to 73 devices.
“Accidental breakage” now eligible for smartphone screens
Another notable new feature: the repair of a smartphone screen will be able to benefit, from January, from a bonus of 25 euros, because, for the most clumsy, the “accidental breakage” criterion will now be eligible. 25 euros will be deducted from your bill when you have the broken screen of your mobile phone or the broken handle of your washing machine repaired.
The bonus will be made directly on the invoice but it must be for eligible equipment which is no longer covered by a warranty and the repair must be carried out by a QualiRépar labeled repairer, all of which are listed on the label’s website. There should also be more and more of them offering this bonus thanks to the simplification of procedures put in place for them by the government.
And one bonus can hide another: the most virtuous consumers will be able to benefit from a 20% increase when parts from the circular economy are used during the repair. Measures to encourage the French to turn to repairers who favor these second-hand parts, and therefore also encourage repairers to use them.
