increase in controls in the Territoire de Belfort to counter the increase in cases

We are in Bessoncourt, on a Wednesday noon. Guillaume is hungry. He plans to gobble up a burger at McDonald’s. But he must first ring the doorbell of the restaurant, be opened, scan his health pass, note his name in the reminder book, then present his pass again to the gendarmes, along with his identity card. With such a welcoming committee, catering is not that “fast” anymore. “We are well received”, Guillaume jokes. “This is the first real check I have ever had to deal with. I had heard it was done, but I had never seen it.”.

Increase in controls against increase in cases

He may well see more and more often. In any case, this is the promise of the prefect of the Territoire de Belfort: to increase controls to fight against the spread of the epidemic. The incidence rate has multiplied by 14 in two weeks in our department. With nearly 300 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it is now above the “maximum alert” threshold, which is 250 cases.

The prefecture announces 117 establishment checks carried out in November. Result: a restaurant and three clients fined. “It’s minimal, people are rather respectful”, notes Christophe Duverne, director of the prefect’s office. “What to avoid are places where there is standing catering, where people move around a lot and where there is a lot of reason to remove the mask.”, he says. Places like Christmas markets for example, where the mask will be compulsory, and where controls are planned.
