Incivility on bikes, no thanks

My wife and I live in Ottawa, a city that is a paradise for fans of the little queen. We take full advantage of it. Each outing places us, unfortunately, before a recurring problem: the incivility of many cyclists. Don’t expect them to announce their arrival! They can’t afford a ten dollar doorbell. Protecting your head, forget it. They love listening to the music of the folk group With No Headphones.

Overtaking a person who is walking in the opposite direction as we arrive: nothing scares them. Maybe they forgot they had brakes.

We rightly criticize the dangerous behavior of certain motorists. But what about cyclists, especially those who are perched on their electrically assisted mounts and who, silently, surprise you with their velocity?

When will they understand that civilized behavior and respect for others benefits everyone and that their rash actions can have serious consequences? You should never despair!
