Incessant rains and flooded municipalities, A Sunday under water in Guadeloupe

Weather conditions continue to deteriorate in Guadeloupe. Part of the Archipelago is facing rising river levels and even, in places, falling trees. Bad weather that is expected to last for more than twenty-four hours.

Very early this Sunday morning the inhabitants of Goyave, particularly battered by the recent cyclone Fiona, began to watch the evolution of the weather which has been raging on Guadeloupe for already twenty-four hours.

A concern justified by the rise in the level of the rivers which leads the mayor of the commune to act without delay and to let his citizens know.

Hello. Given the very worrying evolution of the situation in Goyave linked to bad weather, with rising water levels in the ZAC de l’aiguille and Sarcelles, I decided to trigger the PCS. I invited the DGS and all the department heads to take the necessary measures for the safety of people and property. The elected officials are therefore expected at the town hall as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, in the heights of Petit Bourg, it is the trees which fall and which obstruct the roadway, forcing motorists to turn back, especially on the road to Versailles.
Informed of the incident, the agents of Route de Guadeloupe went to the scene to set up a diversion, via the RD1 in the direction of Vernou, or the RD51, in the direction of Tabanon, the time of an intervention to clear pavement.

In Saint Martin, it was from Saturday evening that the floods were caused in places by the rains.

And the prospects are hardly encouraging since Météo France does not foresee any lull before Tuesday.

However, it should be mentioned that South Basse-Terre remains out of the rainy zone for the time being. Météo France also specifies that

This Sunday day begins with a resumption of showers, particularly on North Basse-Terre and part of the windward coast of Basse-Terre. Despite temporary calm in the morning, heavy showers and thunderstorms are still expected, especially in the late afternoon and evening. All regions may be affected, with Grande-Terre and La Désirade still remaining in the front lines. Gusts between 40 and 50 km/h are possible, especially during thunderstorms.

In its following bulletin, Météo France states that: “Showers continue to occur this afternoon, especially in the low-lying area and in the Pointoise region, before a relative calm next night. Further degradation will occur next night

Words that invite everyone to exercise the greatest caution, especially in the event of traffic on the roads of the sectors concerned.
