Every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. on TVA, The Car Guide presents a program where the automobile shines with a thousand lights.
This week, our columnists Antoine Joubert and Gabriel Gélinas tested the 2022 Ford Bronco in the snow on the Mécaglisse circuit in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci.
In order to be as faithful as possible to the original model, the animators chose to present the Bronco with two doors and equipped with a manual transmission.
“I think the design is absolutely successful. Hats off to the Ford designers,” rejoices Antoine. Gabriel adds that while it’s a “home run” stylistically, it’s something else entirely for the build and assembly quality.
“The first thing I notice [lorsque] I drive the Bronco — comparing it to the Jeep Wrangler — it’s comfort,” says Antoine.
Like the Wrangler, the Bronco offers the possibility of removing the doors quite easily. In the four-door version, it is even possible to cover them with a cover and place them in the trunk. “That’s a point to make because the Wrangler—when you take the doors off—there’s nowhere to put them! says Gabriel.
Several engines
The model tested was equipped with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with the seven-speed manual transmission. Power is 275 horsepower and torque is 315 lb-ft. A 2.7-liter turbo V6 with 315 horsepower and 410 lb-ft is also in the catalog. The Raptor version will be entitled to a larger displacement of 3.0 liters producing more than 400 horsepower.
Gabriel notes, however, that the Jeep Wrangler lineup is more complete than that of the Bronco. Indeed, the Jeep offers a plug-in hybrid engine, a V8, a four-cylinder and two six-cylinders, including a diesel.
