In video: The Car Guide drives the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X

This week on the show Car guidecolumnist Antoine Joubert tested the new 2022 GMC Sierra.

For 2022, the Sierra notably receives several cosmetic updates to the exterior and interior. In addition, two new versions are added to the catalog: the AT4X, which is focused on off-roading, and the Denali Ultimate, which represents the pinnacle of luxury at GMC.

“We are driving the GMC Sierra AT4X [et] frankly, the suspension is impressive because there is a lot of travel,” says Antoine. Indeed, compared to other models of the pickup, the shock absorbers have been raised by two inches.

“This AT4X version is also equipped with various driving modes that allow you to adapt to the environment in which you find yourself,” explains the journalist. Among these, the driver can choose between normal, off-road and extreme modes. In addition, it is possible to lock the differentials at the front and rear.

V8 on the menu

The Sierra AT4X offers a single engine, a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with “exceptional performance”. “However, I think it would have been interesting to offer the 3.0-litre Duramax diesel engine as an option,” laments Antoine.

On the road, our columnist underlines the comfort clearly superior to the AT4 version. As for the passenger compartment, he notes the rich presentation and the excellent quality of finish. “You should know that the Sierra, for 2022, is entitled to a new driving position, a more modern dashboard and a much more ergonomic center console,” he concludes.
